Alice Roosevelt Longworth lived her entire adult life in the public eye. This photo montage begins by placing her in the context of her family members, including the mother she never knew. There are stunning photos of her as Princess Alice, the American First Daughter, famous the world over. The photographs also depict the years when she was at the height of her political power and in the company of others equally famous, and altogether they span her nine decades.

Some of these photos are reproduced in Alice, while others are seen here for the first time. Alongside the photographs are reproductions of some of the written documents that tell something about the private woman described in Alice: a diary entry when she was a teenager showing the "little heartlets,"and examples of the three secret codes that Senator William E. Borah used in his love letters to Alice Longworth.

Enjoy this slide show, but please do not reproduce these photos without permission, as they are not all in the public domain.
